According to the United States Geological Survey, a 2.8-magnitude earthquake was recorded at 12:53 a.m. Like the nine earthquakes that preceded this one, it was recorded in an area about four miles from Lincolnville and Summerville, and five miles from Ladson.
Most of the earthquakes recorded in the area have gone undetected by residents, but the Tuesday morning incident bucked that trend, with a number of Live 5 News viewers flocking to our Facebook page and asking questions.
On May 23, a 1.9-magnitude earthquake was recorded just before noon. On Mar. 22, a 2.3-magnitude was recorded 4 miles southeast of Summerville at 8:04 a.m. More specifically, it was recorded near the intersection of Dorchester and Ladson road.
Before then, the most recent earthquake, rated at 1.6, was recorded back on Feb. 6.
On Jan. 9, a 1.5-magnitude earthquake was recorded 4 miles southeast of Summerville just before 5 p.m.
A 2.6-magnitude earthquake was also recorded in January, and on New Year's Day a 1.4-magnitude earthquake was reported near the same area.
Another 2.6-magnitude earthquake was reported on Dec. 21 and a 2.2-magnitude earthquake was reported 14 days before that. A 2.5-magnitude earthquake was also reported on Oct. 15.
